Hero subscribers can create alternate versions of any NPC's portrait —
different outfits, expressions, or contexts. Each portrait state costs
4 credits. The default portrait is the initial character portrait
generated when the NPC was created; states are variations layered on
top of it.
Creating a portrait state
Open an NPC in the Atlas NPCs tab
In the portrait strip, click the + button
Fill in the form:
Type — Outfit or Custom
State name — a short label (max 30 characters), e.g., "red
ball gown" or "battle armor." This matters: the NPC will be
aware of what they're wearing in the active state and may
reference it in conversation
Base image — the default portrait, or a previous state to
build on
Edit prompt — describe what you want to see (max 500
characters). For example: "wearing a red ball gown" or "battle
armor with a cracked helmet"
Submit — the state generates in the background and appears in the
portrait strip when ready
Switching states
In the cinematic chat view, hover over the NPC's avatar and click the
pencil icon. Select Change State to pick from the available
portrait states. The NPC's portrait updates immediately, and they'll
be aware of what they're wearing going forward.
Prompting tips
Describe what you want the character to look like in natural
language: "wearing a red ball gown" or "leather traveling cloak,
dusty boots."
The system maintains the NPC's face, pose, and art style
automatically. Focus your prompt on the outfit or context.
States are permanent — you can delete them from the portrait strip
if you no longer want them.
