When you walk into a hostile encounter on the hex map, the Battle
Screen opens full-screen. You see the enemy's portrait against the
biome backdrop, their name, level, and HP bar — plus your own stats
and action buttons.
Actions
Combat is turn-based. Each turn you choose:
Attack — strike the enemy with your equipped weapon. Hit chance
scales with your stats vs theirs. Critical hits (rare) deal double
damage
Item — use a consumable from your inventory (healing potions,
food). Only items with a heal amount appear here
Flee — attempt to escape. Success depends on your speed vs the
enemy's
Outcomes
You win. Loot drops into your inventory, possibly with gold.
You flee. No reward and no consequences — you're back where you
started.
You lose. You drop some gold. That's the only consequence right
now — no death, no respawn mechanic.
Stats in combat
Your equipped weapon and armor determine your attack and defense stats.
See Inventory and equipment for how
equipping works.
