Your world's map is a grid of hexes, each with its own biome. This page covers growing the map, reshaping it, and
how it looks.
Hexes and biomes
A new world starts with a single hex of the biome you chose. Each hex is a large patch of land, big enough for a
town and its surroundings.
The biomes are:
Green Plains
Dry Plains
Desert
Frozen Tundra
Jungle
Wasteland
Volcanic Wasteland
Ocean (when adding or editing hexes)
A hex's biome affects:
Travel danger: harsher biomes see enemies more often. See Encounters.
Which enemies roam there: enemies are set to appear in particular biomes.
Weather: each biome has its own mix.
Music: what plays while you're out on the map. You can pick tracks for each biome from the music player.
Backdrops: the landscape behind party conversations and fights out in the wild.
Growing the map
Open Build mode (the toolbox). Around your world:
+ on any open edge adds a new hex. Pick its biome from Choose Biome.
✎ on a hex opens Edit Hex:
change its biome
Show full biome art (hide map texture): show the painted landscape instead of the map's drawn style, for
that hex
Show color wash (global): the soft biome tint around your buildings, on or off for the whole world
× on a hex deletes it (any hex except the one your world started with).
Deleting a hex
Before anything is removed, you'll see exactly what the hex holds and what will happen to it:
Settlements entirely inside the hex are deleted. Settlements that spread into other hexes are kept, just
smaller.
Buildings, roads, rivers, walls, fills and stamps inside it are deleted.
Characters who lived there are archived, not deleted, and they keep all their memories. Find them under
Atlas → NPCs → Archived, and pick a new Home to bring them back.
Then choose Delete Hex to confirm.
Looking at the map
Pan by dragging. Zoom with the scroll wheel or a pinch, or the + and − buttons at the bottom-right.
Fit brings the whole world on screen.
2D / 3D switches between a flat map and an isometric view. In 3D, the arrows rotate it. Your choice is
remembered in this browser.
Map Theme (Atlas → Settings) changes how the map is drawn: inked Parchment, dark Modern, or a
Holographic grid. Each genre has its own default. It's purely visual. See Settings.
On a slower device, lower Graphics quality in Settings for a smoother map.
Markers you'll see
Quest destinations: buildings you need to visit for your current quest step.
Bounty markers: red markers just outside a settlement, from bounties you've accepted.
