Journal → Preferences tells the story systems what you want from your world. It shapes Story Moments and the
daily digest. Only one setting, Avoidances, reaches your conversations directly.
Your goal, fear and secret
Your Goal: what your character wants most. The story will dangle paths toward it.
Your Fear: what your character dreads. The story may make you face it.
Your Secret: something you're hiding. The world may threaten to expose it.
These pull the story toward themes that matter to you, without characters naming them. Characters are never told
your secret.
These are separate from your character sheet: they're about the story you want, not facts characters know about you.
Genres, tone and pacing
Genres: pick any of the presets (political mystery, romance and drama, dark fantasy, comedy and mischief,
survival, war, horror and suspense, redemption arc, heist and intrigue) or add your own.
Tone: serious, lighthearted, gritty, whimsical or balanced.
Pacing: slow burn, steady or fast-paced. Slow burn plants small seeds; fast-paced gets to the point.
Surprise me hides these three and lets play decide what your story is about.
Player agency
Drive my own story, let the world surprise me, or balanced: how much the world brings to you versus waits
for you.
Backstory hooks
Facts about your character's past that the story can pull on: who they're running from, who they lost, what they're
hiding from. Keep it to facts about your character rather than instructions.
Avoidances
Topics you'd rather not see. Type one and press Enter to add it.
In conversations, characters won't bring these up, but they'll follow your lead if you do.
In Story Moments and overnight events, they're kept out entirely.
Saving
Choose Save Preferences (or Update Preferences). Changes shape what happens from then on.
Start New Story
At the bottom, Start New Story clears the current story setup and Story So Far and begins again. Characters'
memories, your notes, the digests and everyone's relationships stay as they are.
