2. Create your world

A new world takes four choices. Then you create the character you'll play, and step onto your map.

The four steps

Choose + New World on the dashboard.

1. Name

What your world is called in your world list. You can give it an in-world name later, in the Atlas.

2. Setting

Pick one of five genres: Medieval Fantasy, Victorian, Modern Day, Neon Future or Sci-Fi: Colony.

The setting decides the flavor of everything the game generates: building types, the jobs people hold, the names they're given, what they wear, the currency, and how the map is drawn. Every system works the same way in every genre.

You choose the setting once. There's no option to change it later.

3. Art

First pick an Art Model, then an Art Style.

You can change both later in Atlas → Settings. Images you've already made keep their original look. See Image models and art styles.

4. Starting biome

Choose the land your world starts on: green plains, dry plains, desert, frozen tundra, jungle, wasteland or volcanic.

Choose Create World.

Create your character

The first thing you'll see in your new world is character creation. Everything else waits until you've made your character.

  1. Describe yourself in a sentence or two.
  2. Choose Create Your Character. The AI turns your description into a full character sheet.
  3. Review every field and change anything you like. To fill the form in yourself, choose Manual instead.
  4. Optionally, choose Generate Portrait (uses image credits). You can regenerate until you're happy with it.
  5. Choose Begin Adventure.

What the AI does with your description

Say you write:

My name is Leon Voss, I am a 29 year old elven warrior with jet black hair, and wearing a white tunic.

The AI sorts that into the right fields and fills in what you left open:

Anything you state is kept, and anything you leave out is invented to fit. If something isn't right, change it in the review.

Two fields are worth getting right now:

More on your character in 6. Your character.

Your map

Once your character is made, you're on your map: a single hex of the biome you chose, with no towns or people yet. You'll add those over the next two chapters. You can add more hexes of any biome later.

The world tour

A short tour shows how to move, where your character sheet lives, the Command Deck, the clock, and your tools. On desktop, replay it any time from the graduation-cap button in the top-left corner.
