A backdrop. The settlement's art appears behind outdoor conversations with your party and behind fights in
town.
Structure. Districts divide a settlement into neighborhoods. Regions group several settlements together.
Draw it
Open Build mode and choose Settlement.
Pick a mode:
Hexes: click whole hexes (they must touch).
Draw: click points around any shape.
Choose Finish.
In the Create Area box, choose Settlement, give it a name, and pick a type: Village, Town,
City, or type your own ("free city", "mining camp").
Choose Create.
Any buildings already inside the boundary become part of the settlement.
The Settlement Wizard
Once the settlement is created, the wizard offers three ways to fill it.
Begin from a template
A complete settlement in about a minute: buildings, streets and the people who live and work there, ready to talk
to.
Template. Choose the kind of place (each genre has three, from small to large) and how many buildings.
Layout. See it arranged on your map. Adjust the spread and spacing, shuffle for a new arrangement, then
Lock layout.
Residents. Name your settlement and meet who lives there. Swap any building for a Different building,
give people New names, or Shuffle everyone.
Place the buildings.
Templates are free. Every portrait and interior comes already painted, so placing one costs no credits.
A few things to know about templates right now:
Art styles. Template art is painted in the Default model's five styles: Oil Painting, Modern Anime, Retro
Anime, Adult Animation and Comic Book. You pick one in the wizard. Worlds set to a premium model still get
Default-model art for template buildings.
Language. Template names, descriptions and characters are written in English, whatever language you play in.
Describe it
Write a line about the place and the AI writes its profile: who runs it, what it trades, what people argue about.
This writes the profile only. No buildings or people are placed.
Fill it in by hand
Write the profile yourself.
The profile and the NPC briefing
A settlement's profile (government, economy, culture, current tensions and more) is the raw material. From it, the
game writes the NPC briefing: a few sentences that every resident knows.
The briefing is written once, when it's empty. After that it's yours. Edit it freely, and the game will never
rewrite it behind your back. To get a fresh one after changing the profile, choose Rewrite from profile.
In Atlas → World, open the settlement to write an exterior image prompt and generate its picture (costs image
credits). Template settlements arrive with one already painted.
Districts and regions
Draw them the same way. A district goes inside a settlement, and a region goes around one or more. Each has its own
profile and briefing. See Settlements, districts and regions.
