Bring in a character you've written with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any other AI assistant.
Where to import
Atlas → NPCs → New NPC → Import
The Location Wizard → Cast → Import, to add the character straight into a building
Get a character from your assistant
You have two options:
Copy prompt for your assistant. The prompt includes your world's genre, its roles and the exact format RPBuddy
expects. Paste it into your assistant, describe the character you want, then copy the reply.
Get the skill. A one-time download that teaches your assistant the format, for assistants that support skills
(such as Claude and Gemini). Upload it to your assistant, then just ask it for an RPBuddy character. You can also
download the skill here.
How it works explains the steps in more detail.
Bring it in
Paste the reply into Character JSON (the whole reply is fine, extra text and all), or choose a .json file.
Then choose Review NPC.
The character opens in the usual review form. Check every field and change anything you like before saving.
Adjustments you might see
If anything didn't fit, the review lists what was changed under Imported with adjustments:
text that was too long is shortened
a role that doesn't exist in your world is replaced with the world's default role (change it in the review)
relationships without both a name and a relation are skipped
unknown fields are ignored
Some imports are refused outright:
characters without a name or age
characters under 18
a paste containing several characters (import one at a time)
Saving
Like any character, an imported one is checked when you save it. A character must read as an adult throughout their
profile, not just in the age field. If the save is refused, revise the description so the whole character clearly
reads as an adult, then save again.
After importing
Set Home and Workplace so they turn up in the right places. See NPC profiles.
Generate a portrait from their Portrait Prompt, or pick one from your gallery.
