Writing image prompts

How to get the picture you want. Every image prompt describes the subject only. Your world's art style, and the framing for each kind of picture, are added for you.

Portraits

The Portrait Prompt on a character's sheet is the only thing the portrait is made from. Their appearance and outfit fields aren't used.

Include: features, hair, skin, build, expression, and clothing from the waist up.

Leave out:

If you change how a character looks or dresses, update the prompt too, then regenerate.

Weathered man in his fifties, close-cropped gray beard, scar across the left eyebrow, heavy wool coat over a leather apron, tired but kind eyes.

Interiors and outdoor places

A building's Interior Image Prompt paints the backdrop of every conversation held there. Outdoor places (parks, plazas, ruins) use an Exterior Scene Prompt instead.

Describe the room or the scene: the materials, the light, the clutter, the mood. Leave people out, since the characters appear in front of it.

Low-beamed tavern room, smoke-darkened rafters, a long oak bar with brass taps, lanterns throwing warm light over scarred tables.

Settlements

A settlement's exterior image prompt paints a ground-level view of the place: its streets, its buildings and their materials, the light. The biome it stands in is added for you. Leave out people and signs.

Enemies

An enemy's Image Prompt paints the creature, which is then cut out to stand against the battle backdrop. Describe the creature itself, not a scene around it.

Tag-style prompts (BuddyMix)

In BuddyMix worlds, prompts are comma-separated tags rather than sentences:

1boy, mature male, gray beard, scar on eyebrow, wool coat, leather apron, tired eyes

When the AI writes a prompt for you in a BuddyMix world, it uses tags automatically.

Words that won't work

Image prompts can't name real people or use titles like "president", "senator" or "mayor". The button stays greyed out until you rephrase ("a civic official's study" instead of "the mayor's study"). See Image safety.
