Buildings and rooms

Every building field and what it does, rooms and floors, and editing buildings on the map.

Where to edit buildings

Building fields

Name. The building's name everywhere: on the map, on its card, and in what characters are told about where they are. Renaming a building doesn't rewrite old memories that mention the old name.

Type. Chosen from your genre's list (tavern, clinic, noodle bar…). The type changes:

Changing the type later only affects what happens from then on. It doesn't change the jobs of people already there.

Description (up to 2,000 characters). What a person standing there would notice, and what the place is for: the smells, the regulars, the house rules. Every character in the building reads it, every message.

Owner. Shown on the building's card and in the Atlas. When a building is created, the character whose name matches the owner becomes its proprietor: they run its shop and act like it. Typing a different name here later doesn't make that person the proprietor.

Interior Image Prompt (or Exterior Scene Prompt for outdoor places). The picture behind every conversation held here. Describe the room or scene, not the people. Your world's art style is added for you. Regenerate paints a new one (the cost is on the button). The gallery button lets you reuse any image you've made before, at no cost.

Real people and titles like "mayor" or "senator" are blocked in image prompts. Write "a civic official's study" instead of "the mayor's study". See Image safety.

Building Color and Map Icon change how the building looks on the map, and nothing else. Auto uses your genre's color for its type.

Music Tracks. What plays while you're inside. With none picked, music is chosen to suit the building's type. You can also change it in-game from the music player.

Rooms and floors

Under Sub-locations, + Add sub-location adds a room, floor or unit inside the building. Each room can hold rooms of its own, up to three levels deep, with up to 100 in one building.

The Location Wizard can add floors and rooms when you create a building. See The Location Wizard.

Moving between rooms

In a conversation, the up arrow at the right end of the row of portraits opens the room list. Choose a room to go there. If you're mid-conversation, choose the person's small portrait beside a room to take them with you.

Residents

The right side of a building's page lists everyone who lives there, grouped by room.

Editing on the map

In Build mode:

Building status badges appear in Build mode: amber for buildings still waiting to be filled, green for finished ones.

Deleting buildings

The Eraser in Build mode removes a building after you confirm. The people who live there are archived, not deleted, and keep their memories. Bring them back from Atlas → NPCs → Archived.

A building joins the settlement and district it's placed in. Moving it within its settlement updates its district to match where it now stands.
